Guide

Dolphins near Sotogrande

The Bay of Gibraltar and the Strait are among the best places in Europe to see wild dolphins, and they are a short cruise from Sotogrande.

Which dolphins can we see?

Common, striped and bottlenose dolphins live in the Bay of Gibraltar and the Strait all year round. Sightings of wild animals are never guaranteed, but they are frequent.

How long does a dolphin trip take?

Allow at least 2 to 4 hours, so there is time to reach the bay and spend time with the dolphins. A half day also gives you time for a swim stop on the way back.

Respecting the dolphins

Skippers keep a safe distance, slow down near the animals and never chase or feed them.

Questions

Sotogrande yacht charter FAQ

Are dolphins guaranteed?

No. Dolphins are wild animals, so sightings can’t be guaranteed, though they are common in the Bay of Gibraltar.

When is the best time to see dolphins?

Dolphins are seen all year. The sea is usually calmest in the morning, which makes them easier to spot.

Where do the boats leave from?

Every charter on this site leaves from Puerto Sotogrande, the marina in Sotogrande (San Roque, Cádiz), between Gibraltar and Marbella. We send you the exact pontoon and the skipper’s phone number when your booking is confirmed.

How does the 20% deposit work?

Choose your boat, date and time and send us the booking by WhatsApp or email. We confirm availability with the operator and send you a secure link to pay a 20% deposit. You pay the remaining 80% to the operator before you board.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The skipper decides whether it is safe to sail. If your charter is cancelled because of the weather, you can move it to another date or get your deposit back in full.

What is included in the price?

Each listing shows what is included, usually the skipper, fuel for a set distance, drinks and snacks. Catering, berthing in other ports and crew tips are normally extra. Prices shown include 21% Spanish VAT.
